The Avett Brothers Bust Out John Denver Cover With Ketch Secor In Mexico

JamBase - July 9, 2018

The Avett Brothers At The Beach destination event continued in Riviera Maya, Mexico on Thursday. The second day at the Hard Rock Hotel featured another performance by The Avetts who busted out a John Denver cover and were joined by Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor.

The Avett Brothers opened their second At The Beach 2018 appearance with “Satan Pulls The Strings.” Thursday’s concert also featured brothers Scott and Seth Avett dueting on “C-Sections and Railway Trestles” and leading the band on favorites such as “Distraction #74,” “Paranoia in Bb Major,” “Kick Drum Heart,” “Geraldine,” Bob Dylan’s “I Shall Be Released,” and others.

Midway through the set, The Avett Brothers welcomed Secor to have a fiddle duel with Tania Elizabeth on “Le Reel Du Pendu.” The Avetts and their guest fiddler then broke into “Thank God I’m A Country Boy,” marking the band’s first performance of the John Denver sing-along since 2015. Toward the end of the set, family patriarch Jim Avett was brought onstage to assist on Al Green’s “Precious Lord.” The band followed with set-closing takes on “Living of Love” and a cover of “Stay All Night (Stay A Little Longer).”
